You chose your candle because you like its smell, you like its packaging and you don’t want to see it go up in smoke too quickly. We totally understand!

That’s why we’re giving you some little tips so that you optimise its precious burn time and make it last longer. But first, let us explain how the burning of a candle works and how you can maintain your precious scented object.

How does a candle work?

When you light a candle, the heat from the flame will melt the wax near the wick. This liquid wax will rise all along the wick through capillary action.

Thanks to a sufficiently high temperature, the wax will be vaporised and then consumed at the level of the flame. It’s therefore the wax that burns and maintains the flame.

4 steps to get the most out of your candle

Ok, now that we know how a candle works, here are some tips to help your candle stay beautiful longer and burn less quickly.

1) Burn your candle between 1 and 2 hours

This gives time for the entire surface to liquefy. Otherwise, it may widen, and you will lose burning time (sacrilege!).

2) Trim the wick before each use

Yes, this is extremely important! First, to avoid any soot emanation and a flame that is too high; secondly, because wicks tends to bend sideways in the heat.

If you re-light your wick without trimming it, one side of the candle will burn out faster than the other. It will not be pretty, and again, you will waste precious burn time.

3) Smother the flame rather than blowing on it

This technique will give off less black smoke and soot. This is also a great opportunity to trim the wick, in anticipation of its next use.

4) Light your candle 1 hour before receiving guests

This gives the perfume adequate time to diffuse and creates a great moment of conviviality!
